Where to Next?

Howdy Gangsters!

Just been getting a little stir crazy and began to think about next year's mancation. Wondering things like: Will we have a Mancation, where would we go, and when would be best? This is the time of year Paul and I began brain storming last year...So I now set the wheel in motion.

What do you think? Even if it's too soon to tell, where would you like to go?

Personally, I would like to see the Grand Canyon, or go to Lake Tahoe. These are just distant wishes, but it's okay to think about it. How about you, what do you wish you could do with your bros?

Weather or Not!

Hey guys!
I don't know about you, but I've been obsessively checking the weather for Bryson City, NC (which is where we're going). Things looked pretty bleak at the beginning of this week for the 10 day forecast, but the closer are departure comes the nicer the weather seems to be getting. Focus your prayers to our trail guide (Jesus) that we would have formidable weather, because we're going weather or not!

Essential gear for the trip

Here's a list of things that each person needs to pack:
• Air horn (for the bears)
• 50ft. of light rope to hang your food in
• Toilet paper (estimate how much you poop and pack accordingly)
• Cup for drinking or eating from
• Eating utensils
• Small bottle of biodegradable soap to wash clothes, clean dishes, or take a bath with (can be bought at Walmart for $2 in the camping section)
• Bug spray
• Small Flashlight
• Water bottles (not the kind that break easily...Brady)
• Rain jacket of some sort
That's all I can think of for now. If there's anything else I think of I will post it. I have fuel for the stoves that we're brining but I'm not carrying all of them. Be prepared to pack at least one small canister of fuel each.

Can you believe that the ManCation is only 10 days from now?!?
With that said I think that it is important to nail down exactly who is and isn't going.

That's it. I've heard a lot of "maybes" but we only have space for 8, so if you're planning on coming. Please make sure your prepared (gear & food) and contact me (338-1717) ASAP!

p.s. It would be great if we could all ride down together in one vehicle. So if someone has a vehicle available large enough we could all chip in for gas! This makes the trip a lot shorter.

Fishing information

Here are the requirements for trout fishing in the Smokies:

1. Fishing is permitted only by the use of one hand-held rod.
2. Only artificial flies or lures with a single hook may be used. Dropper flies may be used. Up to two flies on a leader.
3. Use or possession of any form of fish bait or liquid scent other than artificial flies or lures on or along any park stream while in possession of fishing tackle is prohibited. Prohibited baits include, but are not limited to, minnows (live or preserved), worms, corn, cheese, bread, salmon eggs, pork rinds, liquid scents and natural baits found along streams.
4. Use or possession of double, treble, or gang hooks is prohibited.
5. Fishing tackle and equipment, including creels and fish in possession, are subject to inspection by authorized personnel.

For those not wanting to fly fish and still fish, your best bet is to purchase a regular Zebco 33 classic rod and reel combo (found at Watmart for $30) and purchase some small single hook lures. I have a combo that someone can borrow, but if anyone needs help on what lures to buy, just let me know and I can help you out. Hope this helps and please post questions if you have any.

Welcome to ManCation 2008!

While visiting the Cumberland falls with some friends I spied two young backpackers coming out of the wilderness. These two huge bags where what they were carrying! I'd say at least 70 pounds each, you won't need that much stuff!
